In response to the planned nationwide protest, tagged “End Bad Government,” organized by unidentified individuals, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has appealed to Nigerians to reconsider and cancel the protest.
The IGP made this appeal during a press briefing at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Mr. Egbetokun emphasized that while the police are not against peaceful assembly, the planned protest is ill-timed, given that the organizers remain anonymous and have threatened to incite violence similar to the protests in Kenya.
The IGP commended patriotic individuals who have withdrawn from the protest, recognizing its ulterior motives.
He urged Nigerians to exercise caution, assuring them that the government is taking steps to alleviate the current hardships.
The Police Boss added that, to manage the planned protest and avoid a repeat of the EndSARS protests in 2020, those wishing to protest should meet with the Commissioner of Police in their respective states.
He further explained that they are required to provide the police with their names and contact details of protest leaders and methods to prevent the protest from being hijacked by unscrupulous elements.
IGP Egbetokun noted that the force has implemented all necessary measures to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
