The Department of State Services, DSS has issued a strong warning against the planned protests set to take place in various parts of Nigeria in the coming weeks.

The DSS, in a statement in Abuja highlighted concerns over the intentions behind these protests, citing credible intelligence that suggests some elements are planning to infiltrate and incite violence.

According to the DSS, while the right to peaceful protest is a fundamental democratic principle, there is a confirmed plot by certain groups to exploit these protests to create chaos and extreme violence.

The statement noted that the true motivation behind the protests is political, aiming to discredit both federal and state governments and ultimately push for a regime change at the national level.

The DSS revealed that it has identified the funding sources, sponsors, and collaborators involved in the plot.

However, the agency emphasized that it prefers non-aggressive measures to address the situation, such as moral persuasion, stakeholder engagement, and diplomatic efforts have been employed to dissuade the planners from their intended actions.

The DSS urged the groups planning the protests to reconsider their approach and avoid any actions that could lead to violence and anarchy.

The Service highlighted the ongoing efforts by different levels of government to address economic challenges and called for patience and constructive dialogue with authorities.

The statement also called on leaders and influential figures across various sectors, including industry, labor unions, student associations, civil society, and religious groups, to discourage participation in the protests.

Parents, guardians, traditional and academic leaders were also urged to advise their children and wards against joining the planned demonstrations.

The DSS assured the public of its commitment to maintaining peace and security in collaboration with other security and law enforcement agencies.
