Reps Summon Mahmud, FCT Area Council Chairmen

The House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters has summoned the FCT Minister of State and the six Area Council Chairmen to appear before the Committee on Tuesday, July 16th.

The Committee warned of potential sanctions if they fail to appear.

This follows the Area Council Chairmen’s refusal to attend a previous meeting with the Committee.

Chairman of the committee, Fredrick Agbedi, expressed concern over the minister and chairmen’s absence, citing a breach of constitutional responsibilities and a disservice to their constituents.

He noted that despite significant funding, no projects have been completed or commissioned in the area councils.

Committee members Ikonne Ifeanyi and Adesola Adebayo emphasized the importance of oversight and accountability, expressing disappointment and frustration with the minister and chairmen’s lack of cooperation.

Another member, Nurudeen Abbas, suggested giving them a final chance to comply.
