5,014 Offenders Arrested During Sallah Special Operations -FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC says 5,014 offenders were arrested for 5,848 offences during the just concluded 10 days Sallah Special Operations nationwide.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr Shehu Mohammed who stated this while briefing newsmen in Abuja said there was a 51 percent reduction in road crashes during this year’s Eid-el Kabir special patrol compared to the same period in 2023.

According to the Corps Marshal, a total of 522 people were involved in road accidents in 2023, while 322 people got involved in 2024, representing 38 percent reduction.

“However, even though reasonable progress has been recorded in crash reduction in Nigeria, it is still unacceptable, the number of deaths and injuries we recorded during our last outing”.

He attributed the achievements to the engagement with stakeholders in the road sector, aggressive motor park enlightenment, and strict enforcement of traffic laws .

“We have gone a step further by commencing prosecution of recalcitrant drivers using mobile courts in the 36 states and the FCT.”

Mr Shehu Mohammed commended the doggedness and resilience of personnel who risk their lives to save lives on the roads, saying the Corps would come up with new initiatives to further reduce road accidents and fatalities.

According to him, the Corps will soon begin to suspend and withdraw the National Drivers’ license of recalcitrant drivers across the country.

Mr Mohammed emphasized that the Corps would also strengthen the ongoing Inter Agency Joint Task Force to mitigate the excesses of trailer drivers, most especially enforcing compliance on indiscriminate use of trailers to convey human beings.

He appreciated the overwhelming support received from the federal government and pledged that the Corps would remain committed under his leadership towards reducing road accidents and bringing sanity on the highway.
