House Frowns At Poor Mgt Of Govt’s Assets By MDAs

todayJune 26, 2024

Background

The House of Representatives has expressed concerns over poor management of government assets by Ministries Departments and Agencies across the country.

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Assets, Mr. Ademorin Kuye expressed the concerns during the committee’s investigative hearing with the National Orientation Agency, NOA.

Mr Kuye stressed the need for proper documentation of the government’s assets as well as ensuring that the assets are properly secured from encroachment.

The Chairman who noted that NOA has not taken proper possession of some of its assets across the country said the encroachment of the landed assets in some states were as a result of not fencing the landed property

The Committee Chairman who also expressed dismay on the poor welfare of the staff of the agency noted that, how can the agency do well in value reorientation and enlightenment programs if the agency is not well fund

The Director General of NOA, Alhaji Isah Lanre Onilu, explained that efforts are ongoing to ensure detailed proper documentation of assets that belong to the agency.

The Director General said he has not been able to provide the Committee with the detailed and necessary information as well as documents concerning the assets of the agency because it has not been long he assumed office as the Director General of the Agency.

He pleaded for more time to provide the necessary information about the agency’s assets as requested by the Committee.
