todayJune 25, 2024

Background

The Nigerian Army says it is gearing up for the 2024 Nigerian Army Day Celebration with series of activities to honour the nation’s military history and achievements of its soldiers.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Major General Abdulsalam Ibrahim, made this known while addressing newsmen in Abuja.

According to him, the celebration, marking the Army’s 161 years of service since its inception in 1863, commemorates its evolution from the “Glover Hausas” to a formidable force ranked 39th globally by the Global Firepower Index of 2024.

He stated that this year’s theme, “Transforming the Nigerian Army: Imperative for Combating Contemporary Security Challenges within a Joint Environment,” emphasizes the need for continuous transformation to enhance combat readiness and national security.

General Lagbaja explained that scheduled activities include special prayers, school engagements to promote patriotism, a medical outreach, and the commissioning of community projects.

He further stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to attend the grand finale as the Special Guest of Honour.

The Army Boss stressed that the Nigerian Army seeks to deepen its partnership with the media and reaffirm its commitment to national security, calling for continued support from all Nigerians.

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja assured the nation of the Army’s dedication to resolving security challenges and upholding the Constitution under the strategic guidance of President Tinubu.
