HoS Harps On Regular Exercises For Improved Productivity

todayJune 24, 2024

Background

Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan has advised civil servants to imbibe the culture of daily exercises and sporting activities to keep fit for the enormous task of national development.

She gave the advice in Abuja during the Aerobics and Sporting activities as part of activities to mark this year’s Civil Service week.

Dr. Yemi-Esan further charged them to also work in line with the World Health Organisation’s guidelines of at least 10,000 steps recommendation as a way of achieving the required physical activity level.

She explained that for Civil Servants to be able to perform optimally and be more productive, they must be healthy and so the aerobics and sports are to encourage them to participate frequently in sporting activities which would go a long way to improve a healthy life.

The Head of Service implored Federal Civil Servants to make adequate use of the well-equipped Wellness Centre in the OHCSF’s Complex for both their physical and mental fitness.

According to her, “We had the Aerobics, but please, let us ensure that we adopt these exercises as a daily habit. Even if the only thing you can do is to walk only two kilometres,do that every day. But if you can do a thousand steps a day, believe me, you would not need to go to the hospital, I can assure you.

She equally urged workers, across all the MDAs, to engage in regular sporting exercises to draw the attention of the general public that Civil Servants are the workforce and engine room of Government, adding that it is time for Civil Servants to recognise, as well as appreciate themselves for the good job they are doing.

While speaking on the significance of the event, the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Eno, said that physical fitness is vital as sports development and fitness were synonymous with building a virile nation.

Senator Eno explained that, “The productivity of our civil servants is very, very necessary,it’s very vital. It is also discovered that sport development, physical and mental fitness go hand in hand. ”

The event featured a 100-metre race for both male and female workers, a novelty football match, and the aerobic session.

Trophies were awarded to various winners in first, second, and third positions. The OHCSF was awarded “Best Behaved Team,” while the 2nd position was clinched by the Federal Ministry of Education.
