Jannik Sinner secured his first title as the world number one by defeating Hubert Hurkacz at the Halle Open.
Italy’s Sinner stormed to his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open in January and then dethroned Novak Djokovic to claim the No. 1 ranking in June.
The world number one defeated Poland’s Hurkacz 7-6 (10-8) 7-6 (7-2) to claim his first grass-court title. Interestingly, they also played doubles together in Germany.

Sinner has lost just three matches this season – falling twice to Carlos Alcaraz at the French Open and Indian Wells, and being beaten by Stefanos Tsitsipas in Monte Carlo.
Starting as the top seed at Wimbledon, which begins on July 1st, he’ll look to build on his semi-final showing from last year.
“I’m just looking forward to Wimbledon. Last year I made the semis, I played some good tennis, so let’s see what’s coming this year,” the 22-year-old said.
“I’m more confident for sure. Obviously the grass might be a bit different from here and Wimbledon.
“But I have one week now to prepare, so hopefully it’s going to be a good tournament.”
