FCT Police Arrest 4 Suspects In Murder Of Army General

todayJune 24, 2024

Background

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the arrest of four suspects involved in the murder and robbery of Brigadier General Uwen Harold Udokwere (rtd.).

The Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, made this known while parading these suspects alongside twelve others arrested for various crimes in the territory.

According to him, police operatives from the Utako Division, led by CSP Victor Godfrey, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended Ibrahim Rabiu (33), Nafiu Jamil (33), Aliyu Abdullahi (47), and Mohammed Nuhu (28), all residents of Apo, on June 23, 2024, in connection with the murder of the General.

He explained that the suspects confessed to attacking and fatally stabbing Brigadier General Udokwere at his Sunshine Homes Estate residence in Kabusa on June 22.

He stated that the weapon used in the murder and the deceased’s stolen phone were recovered, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects and recover the pistols taken from the General.

CP Igweh noted that the suspects will be charged to court following the investigation.

The police chief highlighted that in a related operation on May 26, 2024, the FCT police’s anti-kidnapping unit arrested Isa Mohammed Ibrahim and his brother Nasiru Mohammed, alias Danger. Isa, an escapee from the 2022 Kuje prison break, and Nasiru are implicated in a December 2023 kidnapping at the Livestock Estate in Dei-Dei, where 17 victims were abducted and ransoms collected.

The brothers revealed their involvement with a larger syndicate led by fugitives Ardo and Mallam.

Igweh further stated that 91 rustled cattle, four sheep, and an AK-47 rifle were recovered from the suspects, who will be prosecuted shortly.

Further joint operations by the Utako and Kubwa police divisions on June 18 and 19, 2024, led to the arrests of Umar Adamu (alias Walejo), a notorious informant and ammunition supplier, and Abdurahaman Abubakar (alias Juli), involved in kidnappings along the Abuja/Kogi road.

CP Igweh reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with residents to eradicate crime in the Federal Capital Territory.
