IPPIS:1,618 Ghosts Workers Deleted, 69,308 Verified -HoS

todayJune 20, 2024

Background

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Dr. Folashade Yemi-Esan, said verification exercises under the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) have uncovered 1,618 civil servants with fake or illegal employment letters.

She also said 69,308 civil servants have been fully integrated into the IPPIS following the compulsory verification exercise.

Yemi-Esan stated this  during a parley with media executives in Abuja, held in commemoration of the 2024 Civil Service Week Celebrations.

She said her efforts to combat corruption within the Civil Service have led to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) investigating over 3,600 public servants.

Dr. Yemi-Esan noted that the cleanup efforts have resulted in the removal of individuals who were not supposed to be on the payroll, including retirees.

She also mentioned ongoing efforts to address cases of civil servants who have relocated abroad but remain on the payroll.

Many of these individuals are voluntarily resigning following physical verifications, she added.

She warned that civil servants abroad without official permission would be dismissed after the ongoing verification process is completed.

An overview of the report revealed that most of these workers were not in core ministries but in parastatals, with some top officials allegedly conniving to keep these positions from being declared vacant.
