Create Enabling Environment For Agriculture To Thrive – Tedheke

todayJune 15, 2024

Background

The Federal Government has been called upon to create an enabling environment for the agricultural sector to thrive.

A stakeholder in the Agricultural Sector, Retson Tedheke made the call while interacting with Newsmen at Ga’ate Community, Kokona Local Government Area of Nassarawa State.

Tedheke who stressed that no country can survive without agriculture advocated for sustainable policies that would improve the sector through mechanization and technology in line with global best practices.

Tedheke explained further that, “Everything has escalated but your purchasing power, your earning power is still the same if not even worse, what you are buying for thirty thousand last year, this time you are not going to be able to get it with eighty, ninety thousand Naira. That is the challenge of the farmer, that is what is happening with regards to insecticides, pesticides, fertilizer. So what to do is to deliberately put money into this production so that the people can have food to eat.

The President talked about the Magic food declaration since July last year, nothing was done about it. ”

Tedheke who is also the Managing Director Nigeria farmers Group and Cooperative Society explained that lack of prompt intervention and the hike in prices of fertilizer and other necessities have been a major impediment affecting food production and supplies resulting in food shortage and hunger.

According to him, Nigeria Farmer Group Cooperative society, NFGCS Farm Estate has introduced Agbatoken, the first Nigeria block chain collateralized agricultural productivity asset based project pioneering a new wave in financing food security and food availability.
With an Assets of $10million valued, NFGCS Farm Estate, we desire to unlock the
potential of rural small holder farmers in driving sustainable food production, shared socio
economic stability and cultural sustainability.

We have to change the narratives when it comes to our food production processes and
system, because the world needs food, which is the real catalyst/Fuel for human growth and
development. It is time to focus massively on agricultural productivity which will help humanity in overcoming socio economic challenges and the struggles of the Farmer. ”

He called for urgent reforms in the agricultural sector to enable the nation to win the war against food shortage.
