A joint operation by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police and the military successfully thwarted an attempted armed robbery at First Bank PLC in Abaji on Thursday evening.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Josephine Adeh, the combined forces responded swiftly to the attack, which began at approximately 5:00 PM.

The statement noted that the assailants, a group of fifteen armed men, launched a coordinated assault on both the Abaji Divisional Police Headquarters and the First Bank branch using dynamites.

The statement explained that the swift mobilization of the security forces, led by the Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, resulted in an intensed gunfight, ultimately repelling the robbers and leading to the arrest of three suspects.

It added that the alleged gang leader, Usman (surname unknown), along with Nuhu Musa, 41, from Kogi State, and Muhammed Aminu, 25, from Abaji, were arrested with severe bullet wounds while one suspect was set ablaze by an irate mob at the scene after being neutralized by the security forces.
