Civil Society for the Eradication of Tuberculosis in Nigeria has called on stakeholders to combat the rising cases of gender-based violence in Nigeria.

The FCT Coordinator for the control of Tuberculosis, Mr. Nathaniel Salifu who made the call at a media parley in Abuja, said unified efforts to eradicate the increasing cases of the menace will go a long way to end such violence globally.

He said the Community Based Organisations working on TB, HIV/AIDs, Malaria and Implementing the TB Network C19RM/RSSH Global Fund Project at the grassroots included the fight against Gender Based Violence as a result of increased cases of the menace at the rural areas.

Salifu also added that funding and finances for primary health delivery should be carefully mapped out and sanctions against any misappropriation or mismanagement be enforced, to enable a robust public health program at all levels as the local government remains a key component that would improve the health care of the citizenry.

According to Salifu, “Addressing these challenges in health systems requires robust action, strengthening infrastructure, securing financial resources, renewing political leadership, and fostering collaborations. Evidence-based interventions, such as Community-Led Monitoring, should be scaled up. Additionally, innovative service delivery models and technological adaptations are critical to minimize disruptions to routine care. ”

Also the Monitoring and Evaluation officer, FCT Agency for the Control of AIDS, Mrs. Zainab Ibrahim said the FCTA has created a Gender and Human Rights Technical working group as a response team in collaboration with other relevant agencies to handle cases of Gender Based Violence particularly among HIV/AIDS patients in the FCT.

In a goodwill message, stakeholders from the FCT Health Promotion Department, Dr. Bunmi Adeyemi pledged continuous support to community based organisations assisting government facilities in the Primary Healthcare Centres across the Territory to ensure adequate preventative measures were taken to prevent avoidable illnesses
