In continuation of activities to mark President Tinubu’s one year in office, the FCTA Health Services and Environment Secretariat is to give a free comprehensive medical care to Abuja residents.
The FCTA is also to give a one year free health insurance for pregnant women to encourage proper ante-natal care towards checking infant and maternal mortality.
Mandate Secretary, FCTA Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe stated this in Abuja when she inspected Science Primary School in Kuje Area Council, being the Venue for the free Medical care, ahead of the proposed services on Wednesday, this week.
According to Dr Fasawe, some of the services to be rendered to the people include, talks on personal hygiene, how to make cost effective nutritional meal for children, general services, blood pressure, sugar test, Hepatitis test, HIV screening, dental care, malaria drugs, eye check, treatment and minor surgery among others.
Dr Fasawe explained that those to benefit from the initiative tagged “Renewed Hope Free Medical Outreach”include women and children, people with disabilities, the vulnerable and all those in need of health care services, but couldn’t afford it.
Dr Fasawe emphasized that the programme was designed to provide quality healthcare for rural dwellers to help them reduce the cost of healthcare spending.
“We have zero tolerance for maternal mortality. It is unacceptable for any woman to die of pregnancy or childbirth complications. we will be offering general healthcare services, eye test with free glasses and surgery where necessary,
“Basically, the target is come one, come all, but on a first come, first serve basis. There won’t be favouritism, just come. For those we cannot see, there is provision for care at the nearest Primary Healthcare Center and the General Hospital,” Fasawe assured.
The Mandate Secretary also visited the Gomo of Kuje, Alhaji Haruna Jibrin, and
the Kuje Area Council Secretariat to sensitize the people ahead of Wednesday’s outreach.
Fasawe warned that the FCTA will not allow the exercise to be hijacked by the privileged ones.
“Pregnant women and children will get free insurance for one year. Let the privileged people, not deny the less privileged people.”
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Health Services and Environmental Secretariat, Dr Babagana Adams appealed for maximum cooperation of the council officials in mobilizing the people that truly need the services, to come and access the Renewed Hope Free Medical care.
On his part, the paramount ruler, the “Gomo of Kuje,” Alhaji Haruna Jibrin, who expressed joy over the choice of Kuje as Venue for the outreach, pledged to mobilize support for a successful outreach.
Also, the Chairman, Kuje Area Council, Abdulahi Sabo represented by the Council’s Chief of Staff, Comrade Abdulahi Sabo Senior, commended the FCT Minister for the good and impactful services he has brought to the people of Abuja, and described the proposed outreach as a laudable initiative.
