Super Eagles coach Finidi George has made it clear that his players know what is at stake and have resolved to give their best in Mondays 10th June 224 (Today) World Cup qualifying game against Benin Republic.

Nigeria dropped to the 5th position in the group following their 1-1 home draw against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

They are set to face the Cheetahs of Benin on Monday (today) and coach Finidi has assured readiness on his player’s side to secure all three points.

“We’re very much aware of why we are here and what we have to do. The players want to go to the World Cup and they have resolved to give their all in every game going forward.

We had our opportunities against South Africa on Friday and should have won, but that is gone and we face another challenge now.

We have resolved not to look too far ahead in this race.

The essence is to take it one match at a time. The Benin Republic is in our front now, and we must deal with that squarely”

Less fancied Lesotho topped Group C table with five points while Rwanda, Benin Republic and South Africa are in second, third and fourth positions respectively with four points apiece.

A win for Nigeria in today’s game against Benin Republic will see the 2023 AFCON silver medalists temporarily climb to the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi has said coming up against their former coach Gernot Rohr will be a big motivating factor for the team in Monday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

The Nigeria Football Federation sacked Gernot Rohr in December 2021 after five years in charge of the Super Eagles.

The Frenchman will lead the Squirrels against the Super Eagles at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan on Monday (today).

Ndidi stated that he is looking forward to the game which is important to the Super Eagles quest of securing a place at the mundial.

“Gernot Rohr coached us for five years, but within those years players are coming, players are going.

Facing him is actually a motivation because we know he’s a good coach, and we know he’s going to plan to win.

We approaching that game we have to show him that he actually missed something in the team, that’s what we have to do now.”

The highly anticipated encounter will kick-off at 5pm West African time.
