Tinubu Declares Free Ride Till December As He Inaugurates Abuja Light Rail

President Bola Tinubu has officially flag off the commercial operation of the Abuja Light Rail for the general public.

During the ceremony in Abuja, President Tinubu declared free train ride for all residents till December this year.

The trial operation of the Abuja Light Rail was put on hold in the territory due to COVID 19 pandemic in 2020.

Since then, the project was abandoned and hoodlums took advantage of the period to vandalize capital intensive facilities of the rail project.

Upon Tinubu’s assumption in office, he gave a matching order to the FCT Minister to revive the project unfailingly before his one year in office for the residents.

Inaugurating the multi- billions naira Abuja light Rail for commercial operation, Joy filled the atmosphere as President Tinubu commended Wike and his team for their commitment and unusual capacity to deliver on a given mandates.

President Tinubu called Wike the Land Lord of FCT, and described his achievements as a demonstration of true service to humanity and our mother’s land.

“Mr Project, I say thank you very much to you and your team. In keeping with the ideals of the Renewed Hope Agenda, you have with your team, demonstrated an unusual capacity,

“As we gather here to commemorate the first anniversary of my administration, we are also celebrating the fruit of collaboration, dedication, progress, and foresightedness,

“The commencement of this project is a dream come true for all of us. Am not surprised, given the track record of the Minister, this accomplishment by the FCT Administration is a demonstration of serious commitment to value, a charge that we all should embrace in this country,

“Abuja Light Rail Metro stands as a symbol of progress, connectivity, inclusivity. It signifies our determination to modernise our transportation infrastructure, reduce traffic congestion in the city, and enhance accessibility to all residents,

” Today, what we have in the Federal Capital Territory is another piece of evidence that we are a government that delivers on promises,”Tinubu said

In his remark, Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike described the completion of the rail project as a fulfilled promise to the residents, made possible by the support of President Tinubu.

“The Rail is an evidence of promise made and promise fulfilled. Wike stated.

On his part the Secretary, FCTA Transportation Secretariat, Mr Chinedum Elechi said the ARMT has the capacity to accommodate a minimum of 700 passengers, with each train designed to run a minimum of 14 trips per day.

Mr Elechi applauded Wike for constructing access roads to the 12 stations, and added that one train could transport approximately 9,800 passengers per day.

The train will operate from Lot 1A from Idu Station to Gbazango and Lot 3, from Metro Station to Airport daily.

High point of the event was the rendition of the Old Nigeria Anthem and a train ride by President Tinubu and some dignitaries.
