The Minister of Interior Dr Olubumi Tunji-Ojo announced this at the groundbreaking for the remodeling and upgrading of the National Fire Academy in Sheda, Kwali Abuja.

According to the Minister, remodeling and upgrading of the fire academy to world class was part of his top plan to holistically address incidences of fire disaster in Nigeria.

Dr Olubumi Tunji-Ojo who emphasized that it is a constitutional duty of the government to protect its citizens noted that the time to rewrite the history of the federal fire service is now.

it is a constitutional duty of the government to protect lives and property, so what you have been set out to do by your establishment statutes is a function of the constitution,”.

” We will be working hard to see to the repeal and enactment of the Fire and Rescue Service Act, this present law of 1963 is obsolete, the scope of fire service all over the world in 2024 is different from what it was in 1963 and we cannot continue to be held down to the apron of the past when we have the opportunity to create a future that we will all be proud of “.

He noted that the remodeling of the fire academy is a clear commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to drive home his renewed hope agenda.

Dr Olubumi Tunji-Ojo stated that the ministry is committed to achieving valuable results in the implementation of policies especially as it concerns the safety of Nigerians.

On his part, the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Jaji Abdulganiyu commended the present administration for the support and determination to revamp the academy to world class.

The administration within one year approved payments of peculiar allowance, rent subsidy and just recently increased the salary for categories of workers, these incentives have renewed the hope of fire men across the country and we are grateful to the honourable Minister who was consistent in his engagement with the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, the result of which all paramilitary agencies under his watch are better for it “

Jaji Abdulganiyu who explained that fire fighters are the first responders in case of fire emergency said the academy when fully upgraded would boost the morale of personnel to always be at alert in line with the service’s mandate of providing fire safety to the people .
