Tinubu Promises Safer Schools, Total Wellbeing For Children

President Bola Tinubu has reiterated commitment to provide quality education and accessible vocational education for the Nigerian Child.

President Tinubu made the promise while addressing pupils and students on the occasion of the National Children’s day celebration in Abuja.

The Old Parade Ground Secretariat was filled to capacity with school children drawn from both public and private schools.

President Tinubu pledged to enhance the total wellbeing of the Nigerian child, through quality education and skills development.

He said efforts were ongoing to ensure a safe school environment for all school-age children across the federation.

He expressed concern over the spate of kidnappings in schools,and promised to ensure that the rights of all children are protected.

President Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of State for FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, said 91 vocational centers are under construction across the country to encourage many youths to acquire skills and develop their talents.

 

On her part, Mandate Secretary, Women Affairs Secretariat FCTA, Dr Adedayo Benjamin Laniyi commended all parents, guardians and teachers for nurturing the students, and emphasised the need for all FCT children to have access to quality education.

Our children are not only a great asset to us, they are the expression of our greatness and continuity of our vision. It is therefore critical to ensure that every Nigerian child, every FCT child has access to qualify education, and inculcating morality in them”.

Also, Minister, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy assured the children that everything will be much better under the renewed hope Agenda.

As the Minister, Ministry of Women Affairs, When it comes to fighting for your rights, I shall always be there for you because Mr. President said the poor shall breathe and children are one of the vulnerable.”

Some students used the occasion to highlight what they want to see in their schools.

A student from one of the FCT schools who pleaded annonimity, appealed to Government thus: “Government pls we are begging you in the name of God to secure our schools.”

Others merely said, “we want Government to make school buses available for the Nigerian schools, we want the laboratories to be equipped, conducive hostels, toilets, and affordable school fees” the students said.

The Speaker of the Children’s Parliament, Rahama Waziri noted that educational empowerment of children is key to attaining sustainable growth and development in the near future.

Education is the bedrock of any progressive society. It is the tool that empowers individuals to transcend the limitations of their circumstances and achieve their full potential.For the Nigerian child, quality education is not just a right but a necessity. ” Waziri said

Highpoint of the event was presentation of trophies to schools that won in the March past and cultural dance.
