The National Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, has released the preliminary report of the Boat Accident where some Nollywood actors lost their lives, pointing out that rescue operation was not timely and no trained divers were available to assist the twelve passengers involved.
The Bureau therefore called for an intensified trainings to local fishermen and boat association members as rescue divers to provide prompt rescue in the event of an occurrence in our inland waterways.
The Director General of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Junior gave the indications while addressing newsmen on its investigations about some incidents in the Aviation and Maritime sectors in Abuja.
The reports involved incidents about three airlines and boat accident that took place last month when some Nollywood movie production crew were going to Asaba, Delta State from Anambra.
The NSIB Director General, Captain Alex Badeh Junior pointed out that the boat driver was not certified and that the fibre boat was not registered with the National Inland Waterways Authority.
Captain Badeh stated that a team of experts had uncovered root causes of the incidents and brought out preliminary and final reports.
Giving details of the reports, the NSIB Director, Transport Investigation, Alhaji Abdullahi Babanya, explained that only one passenger was wearing a life jacket and that there was no manifest of passengers onboard the boat.
He also gave an insight into the incidents involving three airlines.
Alhaji Babanya called on the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the National Inland Waterways Authority to make deliberate efforts towards ensuring safety as well as give appropriate sanction where necessary.
