A Bill to establish the Federal Polytechnic in Onueke, Ezza LGA of Ebonyi State has passed second reading in the Senate.
This followed adoption of a motion sponsored by Senator Kenneth Eze from Ebonyi state during plenary in Abuja.
He said the proposed establishment of the school was an initiative that holds significant potential in advancing human capital development and providing an assured future for the youths in Nigeria and Ebonyi state in particular.
The lawmaker noted that although education remained a cornerstone of any progressive society, there was still more work to be done in addressing skill-based educational needs of under-served regions.
Senator Eze said polytechnics were renowned for providing practical and skill-based education, specialising in technical disciplines, ICT and applied sciences.
In a remark, deputy president of the senate, Jibrin Barau who presided over plenary referred the bill to the senate committee on education and TETFUND for further legislative input and to return it back in two weeks.
