The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is to resume the Continuous Voter Registration in Edo and Ondo States to enable eligible citizens participate in the forth coming governorship election.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu stated this during the second quarterly consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja.
Professor Yakubu said the exercise would provide an opportunity for those who have not registered, those who want to transfer their registration and those who lost or damaged their voters’ cards for replacement.
According to him, the continuous voter registration in Edo and Ondo States will take place simultaneously for ten days, including weekends.
He appealed to political parties and other stakeholders to join hands with INEC in mobilizing prospective registrants for the exercise to avoid late hour rush.
Professor Yakubu also announced that the commission will make available uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards for collection during the continuous Voter Registration in all its offices across the two states.
While appealing to political parties to
maintain law and order during the the electioneering process, the INEC chairman, however, warned against double registration, which he described as illegal.
Professor Mahmood reminded political parties on the need to adhere strictly to the timeline for the upload of the list of polling and collation agents to the dedicated portal.
Chairman Inter Party Advisory Council, Mr Yusuf Dantalle, said the political parties would work with INEC on Voter Education to enhance participation of eligible citizens in the forth coming Governorship elections later this year.
