Gowon Tasks Leaders On Good Governance

Nigerian leaders have been urged to demonstrate exemplary leadership skills worthy of emulation for national development.

The former military head of state, General Yakubu Gowon gave the advise at an International Leadership Conference and Awards in Abuja, in honour of late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua .

Gen. Yakubu Gowon called on Nigerian leaders to brace up to their core responsibilities at various leadership positions in the interest of all citizenry.

He emphasized the need for political leaders to imbibe the life of former and late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua who contributed significantly to economic growth and development of the country and recorded a milestone achievement with no regard to personal interest and sentiment.

In a welcome address, Gen. AB Mamman who is also the Etsu Nyaba Chiefdom, described the Late President Umaru Yar’adua as a selfless leader with exceptional leadership qualities, whose administration grew the economy, stabilized the polity and held Nigeria together seamlessly.

He added that the Late Yar’adua was a law abiding president guided by the principles of separation of powers as enshrined in the constitution who never meddled in the affairs of the legislature, judiciary and even the internal affairs and dealings of his ruling political party.

In a key note address, a political analyst Alh. Majeed Dahiru said the event was organized as an annual convocation of global leaders in diverse spheres with a view to discussing Issues bordering on challenges of governance, leadership, peace, security based on the views and traits of the late Nigerian president.

Dahiru, stressed that Late President Umaru Yar’adua’s personality and disposition of integrity saw to the prudent management of the nation’s resources, that accounted for achievements in his administration ranging from growth in revenue and external reserve.

In a closing remark, the convener of the Forum and President of the Global International for Leadership Success, Chief Sunnie Chukumele commended the speakers for their good will messages while urging those in leadership position to do the needful in the interest of all Nigerians.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to carefully selected individuals, groups and organizations who have contributed to the development of their communities, societies, country and humanity at large.
