Selfishness Major Cause Of Rancour In Political Parties -Udeh

The Chairman, National Rescue Movement, NRM, Ambassador Isaac Udeh has attributed rancour in political parties to selfishness among members instead of promotion of tge party’s ideology.

Ambassador Udeh stated this today while Featuring on “Politics Today” a Kapital FM current Affairs programme in Abuja.

He explained that political parties are meant to be a gathering of conscientious citizens, some of who have the intention of contesting and winning elections.

Speaking on “Maintaining political peace among party members” Ambassador Udeh emphasized that members of a political party are meant to be individuals bound by common interests to win, retain and manage political power on behalf of the citizens”.

Most leaders of political parties put their interests first ahead of the party’s constitution, political parties are meant to assert themselves as viable alternatives to the people” he added.

The NRM Chairman emphasized that once there is disarray among party members it affects the masses and the system at large because the parties are representatives of the people in all arms of government.

Primary interests of political Parties should be the focus of success at the polls and other areas of the People’s interests” he noted.

He further explained that to maintain peace among members there should be code of conduct and discipline which must be followed to the latter as enshrined in the party’s constitution to achieve set goals.

A Political Party is a platform that is fragile and if not preserved very well, and cause serious crack down in the entire system” the Chairman stated.

Ambassador Udeh stated that a political party where there is no peace scares people away, urged party members to always iron out issues rather than sowing discord among members.

Political party leaders should explore equality, justice and invoke their constitution when taking decisions” Ambassador Udeh noted.
