The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has solicited more support from the National Assembly to ensure improved budgetary allocation, to enable the ministry to achieve its mandates
The Minister made the call when the House of Representatives Committee on Information paid an oversight visit to the ministry in Abuja.
While highlighting activities of the ministry, the Minister said it remains committed to ensuring factual and timely information to build trust in governance, hence the need for more resources to enhance its activities.
He applauded the roles played by the committee during the last budget defense, stressing that more needs to be done to build a positive image of the country globally, focusing on various reforms aimed at transforming the nation’s economy.
In her presentation, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Ngozi Onwudiwe explained that the ministry is still trying to put things in order as the previous administration operated from the Federal Secretariat when it was Ministry of Information, Art and Culture.
Leading the team on the visit, the Chairman House Committee on information, Mr. Olusola Fatoba pledged necessary legislation that would promote and strengthen the activities of the ministry as the image maker of the country.
Other members also promised to ensure adequate attention is given to observed lapses and possible remedies for the progress of the country.
