The Labour Party has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to quickly take drastic and proactive steps to save the economy from total collapse and put it on the path of development.
This is contained in a communique jointly signed by the National Chairman, Julius Abure and the National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Farouk at the end of the party’s National convention in Nnewi, Anambra state.
The communique also advises the President to bring up proactive measures that will encourage indigenous producers to boost the Gross Domestic Product and discourage dependency on foreign products.
It recommends a sound economic team that will take a holistic review of various economic strategies to see how it can be rejigged and enable citizens enjoy the potential the nation is endowed with and put the country in her rightful place among the comity of nations.
The communique frowns at the renewed insecurity in the country especially Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, and other states and calls on the President to secure the lives and property of Nigerians, which is the primary responsibility of the government.
It also calls for general restructuring of the security architecture to meet current security challenges facing the nation and advocated for decentralization of the Nigerian Police Force to pave way for regional, state, local and community policing.
On the crisis in Gaza, the communique appeals for an immediate ceasefire and advises the world powers to proffer an immediate solution to halt the continuous killings of women and children and the destruction of property.
It approves the audited financial report of the party for 2022 snd 2023 financial years and also approved the 2024 annual budget presented.
The party also assures its numerous members across the country of an optimistic and bright future and appreciates all forums, groups and others for the steadfast support in the 2023 General election.
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure has been re-elected to steer the affairs of the party for another four years.
The Chairman of the National Convention and Deputy Governor of Abia State, Mr. Ikechukwu Emetu declared him the winner during the party’s national convention in Nnewi, Anambra State.
While Other National officers were elected into various positions among whom are the National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Obiora Ifoh and the National Youth Leader, Prince Kennedy Ihanotu.
The Convention had in attendance: Members of the National Working Committee, National Executive Committee, its Presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, the National Leader, Deputy Governor of Abia State, Labour Party Senators, House of Representatives Members, State House of Assembly Members and the Trade Union Congress among others.
