todayMarch 22, 2024

Background

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Benjamin Kalu has attributed the majority of bureaucratic bottlenecks within the government to the actions of unpatriotic civil and public servants.

Kalu stated this in Abuja during a courtesy call by attendees of the Platform Public Service Bootcamp, TPPSB, for youths.

The TPPSB is designed to equip young people with the necessary Skills, Knowledge and motivation to pursue Careers in Public service.

The exercise Organised by the Covenant Nation Convener, Pastor Poju Oyemade and Mrs Sola Salako- Ajilo as the lead facilitator featured a total of 80 Participants who are passionate about having a career in public Service.

The Deputy Speaker minced no words as he pointed fingers at a segment of civil servants whom he accused of undermining government’s efforts to deliver efficient and transparent services to Nigerians.

Citing instances of deliberate delays, bureaucratic red tape, and corruption, the Deputy Speaker expressed his frustration at the obstacles hindering legislative progress and effective governance.

He revealed that an app is currently being developed to help address bureaucratic bottlenecks in the system, stressing that the nation must embrace technology for Accountability and productivity.

While acknowledging that the nation needs Civil and Public Servants to develop, the Deputy Speaker urged them to pursue honour and integrity in the line of duty.

Addressing the TPPSB attendees, Kalu commended them for showing interest in Public Service and pointed out that the youths as the energy of a nation do not understand the concept of public service which is always being misinterpreted as a mere means of livelihood.

He urged them not to put their personal interest above public interest, admonishing them to embrace selfless service

He added that public service is more than a job but a Commitment to the betterment of the society, a noble calling and above all, a duty that must be fulfilled to secure the nation.
