African Games 2023: Falconets Through To Semifinals

Nigeria’s Falconets on Monday night thrashed Senegal 4-0 in their second Group B game in the football event of the African Games 2023 to book their place in the semifinal women’s football category.

Loveth Edeh gave the Falconets the lead in the 13th minute before Motunrayo Ezekiel added the second on 50 minutes.

An own goal by a Senegalese defender a minute later Motunarayo made it 3-0 before Chioma Olise sealed it with the fourth on 80 minutes.

The Christopher Danjuma-led side have now won back-to-back group games.

In their first group game of the competition the Nigerian U-20 women’s team beat Morocco 2-0.

Christopher Danjuma’s side had started their campaign on a winning note, as they defeated Morocco 2-0 last Friday.

The defending champions continued in similar fashion, crushing Senegal 4-0 to record six points, six goals from two games and qualify as group winners.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles edged South Sudan 1-0 in their second Group B game of the 13 African Games in Accra, Ghana, on Monday.

The Flying Eagles went into the game on the back of a 2-1 loss to Uganda.

Sadiq Isiyaka was the hero for the Flying Eagles as his second half penalty kick was enough to secure the win.

Flying Eagles will take on Senegal in their final group game on Friday.

The Senegalese lost 1-0 to Uganda in their second Group B fixture also on Monday.

Following the win, Uganda have booked their place into the semi-finals of the men’s football event.

A draw should be enough for Ladan Bosso men against Senegal to pick a semifinal ticket.
