The President of Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), Mrs. Oghogho Musa, has underscored the imperative of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Speaking at an event organized by DEPOWA in commemoration of International Women’s Day, with the theme “Inspire Inclusion, Setting the Tone,” Mrs. Musa expressed profound appreciation for the opportunity to honor the extraordinary achievements of women worldwide.
She applauded the transformative evolution of Women’s Day festivities and the rise of various professional and social groups advocating fervently for women’s rights and active involvement in societal advancement.
Mrs. Musa fervently appealed for concerted efforts to acknowledge and honor the distinctive perspectives and contributions of women from all walks of life.

She paid homage to the trailblazing women who have propelled progress, dismantled barriers, and championed justice and equality within their communities.
While celebrating past milestones, Mrs. Musa acknowledged the persistent hurdles confronting women, including entrenched systemic barriers and discriminatory practices across education, healthcare, and economic realms.
She advocated a resolute call-to-action for the dismantling of gender stereotypes and discriminatory norms, stressing the need for policies that uphold women’s rights and foster their empowerment.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Mrs. Musa extended appreciation to the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her steadfast support of women’s course domestically and internationally.
Mrs. Musa further emphasized the imperative of solidarity and collaborative action in shaping a fairer, more inclusive society where every woman and girl can thrive unfettered by gender-based biases and violence.

On her part, the Special Guest of Honour, Former Minister of Women Affairs Dame Pauline Tallen, urged women to continue to stand together and support one another until they get to their rightful place in society.
She tasked Governments at all levels to appoint more women into decision-making processes to ensure women’s inclusion for the nation’s socioeconomic growth.
In a keynote address, Mrs. Jiritmwa Morgak Goyit, who urged women to invest in themselves, harped on the need for policies that would give room for women inclusiveness.
She also stressed the need for government and other stakeholders to invest in women to guarantee their financial freedom.
Earlier in her welcome address, the committee Chairman for DEPOWA 2024 International Women’s Day celebration, Fatima Salihu, while recognizing the remarkable achievements of women around the globe, advocated a world where women can reach their full potential.
