Kapital FM 92.9 The Station that Rocks!
Federal Government of Nigeria, FGN power company has inaugurated a 60 MVA,132/33KV power transformer in Okene, transmission substation in Kogi State, under the pilot phase of the Presidential Power Initiative, PPI.
At the inauguration in Okene, the Minister of Power, Chief Adelabu Adebayo highlighted efforts made in generation, transmission and distribution to improve power supply across the country.
This, he said include improve hydropower capacity with 700 megawatts from Zungeru, 40 megawatts from Kashimbila and revival of 26 abandoned small hydro plants, playing down on debts owed by gas companies to resume supply as well as steps taken to eliminate the huge meter gaps for households and businesses.
The Minister therefore called for collaboration among all stakeholders in the sector including state governments so as to address the electricity challenge in Nigeria.
In a remark, Managing Director, FGN power company, Mr Kenny Anuwe explained that there were 15 other projects to be commissioned as the company was targeting 4000 megawatts in the next few years.
Earlier, Assistant General Manager, Ajaokuta Transmission Sub-station, Mr Francis Odinkemere noted that the installation of the transformer would go a long way in improving power supply in Kogi and neighbouring states including Edo and Ondo.
The 60MVA, 132/33KV power transformers project which commenced in March, 2023 was simultaneously inaugurated in Ihovbor, Edo state, Amukpe, Delta, Potiskum, Yobe State, and Apo in the Federal Capital Territory.
