Wike Pledges Infrastructure, Security Support, For Law School

todayFebruary 22, 2024

Background

The FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, has promised to support the Nigerian Law School, Abuja with vehicles and construction of a staff quarters.

Wike also assured the management of the Law School that the FCT Administration has mounted heavy security presence in Bwari, where the campus is located .

Wike made this known when a delegation of the Nigerian Law School led by the Director General, Prof. Isa Hayatu Chiroma, paid him a working visiting in Abuja.

Wike explained that the heavy security presence within the Bwari Area council where the Abuja Law School Campus is, was based on intelligence gathering, on the need to adequately secure the area.

The Minister who further noted that this was to guard against any unfortunate incidence that may cause setback for the people in the area, Nigeria and the FCT, congratulated the school for attaining 60years.

Wike directed the General Counsel of the FCT Administration to liaise with the school over their request for vehicles and construction of staff quarters, as it relates to cost and design with a view to adding it to the budget.

“Based on the intelligence we were getting. So that is why, it does appear there was so much security within Bwari. We didn’t want to take chances, because if anything happens there, of course it’s a setback to the entire country and then to the FCT”.

”We wish you happy 60th birthday. It is not easy to attain the age of 60 when it has to do with establishment of an institution. It is not a mere feat.”

“As far as we are concerned, we are here to make institutions and agencies of government that carry out business in the FCT, to give them every necessary support. Luckily, the legal profession is my own constituency and so, it will be out of place if they have problems and I won’t be able to support. You should take it as granted that the FCT will support you.

“You made request of staff quarters and vehicles, since you say that the staff quraters will be located within the school, we will support you. So the General Counsel will liase with you between now and Monday and see whether you have the designs, so that we will be able to know what it will cost us and see where we can include it within the budget we will summit to Mr. President to convey before the National Assembly.” Wike Said.

Earlier, the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, commended the FCT Minister for all the intervention the law school has so far received from him and congratulated him on his appointment.

Professor Chiroma also used the medium to inform him that he is nominated as recipient of an award for the forthcoming Nigeria Law School 60th Anniversary.
