In a relentless effort to combat terrorism and insurgency, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have achieved notable success in ongoing operations.

According to a statement by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, in Abuja, the operations have thwarted the strategic objectives of nefarious elements aiming to sow fear through small-scale attacks across operational theatres in the country.

It states that the toops neutralized 254 insurgents and apprehended 264 others during the past week, while arresting 104 perpetrators involved in oil theft.

The statement says that 73 kidnapped hostages were successfully rescued, demonstrating the military’s commitment to safeguarding citizens.

In the fight against illegal activities, troops prevented oil theft amounting to N2,602,902,800.00 in the South-South region.

“Furthermore, 378 assorted weapons and 4,705 ammunition were recovered, including AK47 rifles, pistols, grenades, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), significantly hampering the capabilities of criminal elements.”

“Significant infrastructural and resource damage was also inflicted upon criminal networks in the Niger Delta area. Troops destroyed 131 dugout pits, 70 boats, and 125 storage tanks, alongside confiscating 3,282,250 litres of stolen crude oil and other illicitly obtained petroleum products”.

Major General Edward Buba emphasized the importance of citizens support and urged Nigerians to demonstrate love for their country amid challenges faced.

According to him, the military vows to continue implementing innovative strategies to address emerging challenges and ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.
