Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar has underscored Nigeria’s unwavering dedication to regional security collaboration within the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.
According to a statement by the Director of Information & Public Relations of the Ministry,
Henshaw Ogubike,
the minister reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment during the commencement of the Extraordinary Session of the Mediation and Security Council of ECOWAS in Abuja.
Badaru reiterated Nigeria’s dedication to collaborating closely with its ECOWAS counterparts to safeguard the well-being of citizens.
He further stated that this emphasises Nigeria’s leadership role in advancing peace and security across West Africa, and sets a commendable example for regional cooperation.

Joined by counterparts from across the ECOWAS community, the Minister engaged in deliberations addressing critical security issues affecting the region with particular concern on the withdrawal of three ECOWAS member states – Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso – which has raised alarm and posed significant security challenges.
Representatives led by ECOWAS Commission’s Chairman and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, brainstormed on solutions to combat pressing threats, including climate change, violent extremism, migration, and organized crime.
Echoing the sentiment, President of ECOWAS, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray,
emphasized the need for collective action in tackling shared challenges, stressing the importance of unity among member states.
