Engage Agricultural Entrepreneurs To Address Food Crisis – Adaudu

todayFebruary 7, 2024

Background

Federal Government has been urged to engage and empower Entrepreneurs in agriculture to address the current food crisis in the country.

An Economist and Financial Analyst, Mr Abba Adaudu, while speaking with newsmen in Abuja on the current increase in prices of essential commodities said those to be engaged would concentrate only on agricultural produce in each region where the crop has comparative advantage.

This policy, if well implemented with adequate supervision and security will according to him address food scarcity, create employment and bring long term solution to food crises in the country.

Mr Adaudu believes that the initiative of the Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention could only bring short term solution hence the need for government to adopt long term measures to stabilize the situation.

He explained that release of grains from food silos through the Strategic Food Reserve across the country will not meet the current food demand.

The Financial Analyst also stressed the need for the Federal Government to wave import charges on agricultural implements to reduce cost of production of basic foods.

He assured that once the economic and food challenges are addressed, the current state of insecurity in the country would reduce drastically.

Mr Adaudu however appealed to the current administration to ensure even distribution of resources and ensure that minority ethnic groups were carried along in developmental processes.

This he said would enable minority groups to have a sense of belonging and also check ethnic agitations threatening National Unity.

Mr Adaudu maintained that national rebirth is possible when all Nigerians forget their political, religious and regional differences and work together for national cohesion .
