FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike has flagged off the commencement of a 9km road construction in the Paikon-kore community in Gwagwalada Area Council.
On the occasion in Abuja, Mr Wike also promised to construct 18 rural roads across the six Area Councils to bring development closer to the people.
Wike explained that his administration would develop three rural roads each for the six area councils, as a way of addressing insecurity challenges.
Wike noted that the project is part of efforts to connect communities, improve access to essential services, and foster economic development at the grassroots.
“Development must not only be in the city, it is our duty to make them comfortable…three rural roads each would be constructed across the six area councils. This will help to tackle security issues. Because without good roads criminals operate more…But, we will give them fire for fire”.
He told the contractors handling the project to brace up and deliver a quality job and warned that they would pay back the money spent if the job was not properly done.
“I will not tell you when I will come for supervision. I will not also depend on reports from the Director Satellite Town Development Department, STDD. If you don’t do it well, you will pay back our money. We must change the narrative”, Wike warned.
Wike further mandated the contractors to employ the council’s teeming youths in executing the road construction work, pointing out that job creation is another major priority of President Tinubu.

Today, we take a significant step towards addressing these challenges” Mahmoud said.
