In a concerted effort to ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming run-off and bye-elections in 26 states on Saturday, the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun has mandated the imposition of vehicular movement restrictions from 12 am to 6 pm on the election day.
A statement from the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi in Abuja explained that the IGP has also issued directives for a substantial deployment of security personnel to states where the elections are slated to take place.
Additionally, the IGP has implemented a prohibition on security aides to VIPs and escorts from accompanying politicians to polling booths and collation centers during the elections, while both state-established security outfits and privately owned security organizations are also banned from election security management.
Emphasizing the unwavering commitment of the police force to fostering a secure and democratic society, the Police Boss urged political parties and their supporters to strictly adhere to electoral laws.
