Kidnappers Will Not Be Granted Bail Again In FCT – Wike

todayJanuary 26, 2024

Background

In efforts to intensify the fight against kidnappers in the FCT, the Minister, Nyesom Wike says any kidnapper in custody will no longer be granted bail.

Wike who gave this indication during a town hall meeting in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, A MAC, said releasing arrested criminals, is a potential threat to the city and the entire society.

He said refusal to grant bail would prevent kidnappers from relaunching similar attacks on innocent citizens.

For informants, today is the last day. Repent now, if you don’t repent now, whatever you see you take. You see, those days, when we catch a criminal, if you like go and bring anybody, no bail. Because we can’t continue to allow this“.

So any kidnapper requesting bail, is not going to be allowed. When security arrest you, we will follow up and do everything to see you are fully prosecuted. I can assure you, every directive given to me by Mr President will be carried out to the later. ” Wike assured.

He promised to construct Takushara community road with two other roads as well as establish an additional police division for residents of AMAC as requested by the Council Chairman, Mr Christopher Maikalangu.

He however warned politicians not to politiize issues of security, pointing out that the impart of insecurity does not know who a Christian or a Muslim is, hence the need to collectively stem the tide.

We are not sleeping, security agencies are working .We must not politicize the issue of security. If you do your job, I do my job, traditional leaders do their own job, and security agencies do their own job, we won’t have problems. But if you don’t do your own part, I don’t do my own part, he, does not do his own part, then we are bound to have security problems.”Wike said.

Wike therefore directed Area Council Chairmen to henceforth hold mandatory monthly security meetings with a view to charting a course on security matters.

Wike while emphasizing that any council chairman that failed to hold monthly council security meetings, is a threat to the security of the council, also called for the support of traditional rulers, youths and all citizens to provide necessary information to security agencies.

“If there is no monthly meeting held in terms of security meeting in the councils, I should be aware, and I will hold that chairman responsible for any security bridge. Therefore, I will be calling meetings of all traditional leaders, meeting with all council chairmen and meeting with all security agencies”.

Ours is not to carry guns; ours is to provide information through the area councils, through our traditional rulers; and through my office, then to security agencies. When we give them information, they will take proactive actions. “

Earlier, the Chief of Karshi, Alhaji Ismaila Mohammed, who lend his voice in advising residents to avoid statements that could jeopardize peace, or lead to politicizing security matters, said the security challenges being faced in the territory could be traced to the hardship from fuel subsidy, the multilplier effects of inflation and increasing poverty rate.

God forbid, if there is problem here, all of you will run back to your states. We don’t have anywhere to go, so please, don’t create problems for us here. “

On his part, the Chairman of AMAC, Mr Christopher Maikalangu solicited construction of the access roads in Ketti, Takushara, Burum, Gidan Kwano, Leka, Kutasa to alleviate the plight of the people in the area.
