In a vibrant celebration of Nigeria’s diverse cultures, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has emphasized the importance of embracing the nation’s rich heritage as a unifying force.
Speaking as the Special Guest at the Nigerian Air Force Base Socio-Cultural Activities, BASA 2023 in Abuja, the Minister highlighted the beauty of Nigeria’s varied cultures, languages, and traditions, emphasizing their role in fostering a shared sense of community and resilience.
Underscoring the significance of events like BASA 2023 in promoting understanding and unity among Nigerians, Matawalle stated that “Our cultures are as diverse as they are beautiful, embodied with a shared sense of community and resilience that binds us together”.
Commending the Nigerian Air Force for its commitment to recognizing and rewarding outstanding Airmen and women, the Minister reassured the military community of President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering support through the Renewed Hope Agenda for national security.
Matawalle affirmed, highlighting the commitment to maintaining a formidable force in the region noting that
“Mr. President has prioritized the defence needs of the Armed Forces, evident in funding and investment in advanced equipment to enhance their capabilities”.

The Chief of Air Staff,
Air Marshal Bala Abubakar, expressed gratitude to Matawalle
for gracing the occasion.
He outlined the redefined and rebranded nature of this year’s BASA, centered around promoting family values, esprit de corps, unit cohesion, peace, progress, and fostering friendly relations with the civilian populace.
The event featured cultural displays, tug of war, the presentation of awards to deserving personnel, and the symbolic lighting of the Bonfire by the Minister, marking a memorable celebration of Nigeria’s cultural diversity within the military community.
