Passage Of Blls On State Policing Will Address Insecurity

The passage of bills on State Policing by 10th Assembly will address insecurity in the country.

Member Representating Ibadan North west/South west Federal Constituency of Oyo State, Mr Adedeji Stanley Olajide stated this during a Media Conference at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja

The Lawmaker who connected the urgency of community policing to the recent explosion in Ibadan, expressed the need for timely information sharing to prevent such incidents.

Commiserating with the Oyo State Government and victims’ families, Mr. Olajide, acknowledged the effectiveness of community policing and emphasized reopening discussions on both State and Community Police bills.

According to the Lawmaker,
who is also the Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Information, Communication Technology, ICT, these issues will be prioritized upon the House’s reconvening.

“Community policing is actually one of the very smartest way to police your people. Somebody sees something somebody knows something, they need to speak at the right time”.

“Failure to do so will cause situation like this. So, we are going to reopen that because remember, we’ve also been talking about State Police, we’ll be talking about Community Police”.

“So, I think you know situation like this would actually present an urgency to the matter, so that way we can get the right support that we need to pass whatever legislation that we need to pass for this”.

“So definitely we’re going to pick this up and it’s going to be in the front burner of the activities of the House as soon as we reconvene as a House” he said.

Addressing the Ibadan explosion, Mr. Olajide commended Governor Seyi Makinde’s swift response and first responders noting that efforts were ongoing to nip the situation in the bud.

He pledged support from the House revealing plans for relief materials and cooperation with law enforcement agencies in preserving the crime scene.

In a bid to unravel the cause of the explosion the lawmaker urged the Department of State Security (DSS) to conduct a thorough investigation.

Also Speaking, Member Representating Somolu Federal Constituency, Mr Ademorin Kuye, expressed condolences to the Government of Oyo State and families of the victims.

Mr Kuye who emphasized the need for fiscal federalism leading to State police and aligning with the President’s promises anticipated collaborative efforts with the National Assembly to establish State Police promptly.
