The Federal Capital Territory Administration is to sanction any school principal that records low turn out of students in public schools for poor management.
The Secretary, FCTA Education Secretariat, Dr Danlami Hayyo, stated this when he led the management team on an inspection to selected Public and Private Schools to ascertain level of resumption compliance in Abuja.
Dr Hayyo who expressed satisfaction over the turn out of students on the first day of resumption, warned that the FCT Administration would sanction any school with low turn out.
Dr Hayyo vowed to replace any school administrator that defaults, pointing out that such development is an indication of failure on the part of the school authority.
He noted that education is a priority of the current administration and FCTA would do everything within its power to maintain standards in the sector.
He therefore encouraged the teachers to step up their games in the task of mentoring pupils and students to become better citizens.
The FCT Education Boss added that the routine inspection also serves as a medium to identify needs that are peculiar to certain schools and their challenges, with a view to addressing them promptly.
He also commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his zeal to overhaul the education sector, noting that the sum of 13.1billion naira was approved under the Wike led Administration to renovate, construct, and provide furnitures for schools in FCT.
“…one of the priorities of the minister is education. We can’t wait until the minister sees something bad before we take action, definitely we are going to curb the problem. One of the very important parts of our inspection is to identify some challenges and problems of the schools.
“When we discover a school whereby teachers are ready but students are not present or the turn out of the students is low, definitely we are going to change the administration of the school.I like to call the attention of the teachers to continue with their dedication to duty, because we are not going to leave any stone unturned”, Hayyo warned.
At a visit to Goverment Secondary School, Tudun-Wada, the Principal of the School, Mr Akor Joseph said the impressive turnout was an indication that the students and teachers were ready for teaching and learning .
Some of the schools for the 2023/2024 academic session include Government Science and Technical College, GSTC, Area 3, Government Secondary School, Tundun-Wada, Junior Secondary School Wuse Zone 6, Glisten Group of Schools, Jahi.
