Heralding The New Year With Renewed Hope

Background

Heralding The New Year With Renewed Hope

By Patrick Alumona

The advent of a New Year, obliges individuals, organizations, communities and even nations to get down to the basics, take honest inventory of their actions and inactions in the outgoing year, as a prelude to making resolutions for the New Year.

It affords people the opportunity to rethink on some priorities, and reinforce survival instincts by blocking negative holes in ones reputation, that impeded optimal progress in the previous year if only to excel in the New Year.

Be that as it may, the severe Socio-economic reality of the time demands we allign our New Year resolutions, with reflection on the state of the nation with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda at the back of our minds ad it is pointless denying that nothing in history could have hinted us on the massive suffering now sweeping across the nation.

One of our national tragedies is that since independence Nigeria has been led, mainly by a class whose interests hardly resonated with national interest.

That trend has left on its trail a prostrate nation, gasping for breath.

Given the circumstance, it is stating the obvious that President Tinubu’s administration is unfortunate to be saddled with enormous insipid leadership of some of its predecessors.

But the situation inadvertently affords it the extraordinary chance of drawing the curtain down on that infertile era and returning the nation to the path of growth.

Given that the nation is in a transient emergency requiring immediate solutions, the President and his cabinet are expected to hit the ground running with the speed of light; walking the talk in the Renewed Hope package.

The need to assuage the suffering of the masses is overwhelming and must be tackled with great sense of purpose.

Considering recurring experiences of politicians promising things they hardly fulfill, it will not be out of place for the people to express divergent views on the sincerity of the present government to act differently.

Seeds do not turn into full-grown plants in the twinkle of an eye.

A positive process has been set in motion.

All that is required is patience for the day of harvest As 2024 sets in, the people’s New Year resolution should focus as never before, on ways to make the nation more secure and progressive.

Nigerians are optimistic of a radical regime with emphasis on rebuilding the nation and public trust in the government of the day.

Nigerians do not need an orator of the sugar- tongued variety, to tell us that the nation’s prolonged macabre dance of hardship, will soon be over, considering this administration’s eagerness to run the nation in the right direction.

Though some people still have reservations about the actions of some key players in the administration, who apparently in the bid to impress their employers, do raore harm their efforts.

Like a brave sailor on a stormy sea, Nigerians have gallantly kept their boats afloat above inclement waves and dangerous waters.

We will surely smile in the end if we persevere with the same spirit of determination that has seen us through so far.

Past years may have been harsh but the future beckons with fresh hope and in wishing President Bola Tinubu good luck in the onerous task of repackaging Nigeria, his consolation should be in knowing that any man’s finest hour, his greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good course and lies exhausted in the field of battle, victorious.
