Renewed Hope: Oluremi Tinubu Gives 250 Elderly Cash Gifts In FCT

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has reached out to 250 elderly persons drawn from the six area councils of the territory and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu while distributing the items in Abuja, noted that the intiative is in line with the renewed hope agenda of the present administration to run an inclusive governance to alleviate poverty.

She assured that a mechanism have been put in place to ensure that each State receives the sum of 25million naira out of the 950million approved by the Governing Board Of the Renewed Hope Initiative without discrimination.

Oluremi Tinubu who was represented by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, explained that beneficiaries considered to be elderly persons is from 65 years and above.

The First Lady of Nigeria explained that the rationale of providing the sum of 100 thousand naira each to elderly person is to help them cushion the effects of the economic situation and lessen their burdens this festive period.

Speaking on the theme of the Elderly Scheme,” Better Days Ahead” Senator Oluremi Tinubu hinted that the decision to empower the elderly across the 36 states of the federation was borne out of the steadfast commitment of this Administration to ensure the well-being of all older citizens.

The First Lady therefore urged the older people to prioritize their health and strengthen their bonds with their loved ones and with God.

To our senior citizens, I urge you to embrace life to the fullest, prioritize your health, nurture your minds, and strengthen your bonds with loved ones and with God. These are the keys to a rich and fulfilling life in your golden years.

“This scheme is to support Two Hundred and Fifty (250) vulnerable elderly citizens aged 65 and above in all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA)” Tinubu said

Earlier, in her welcome address, the Minister of State For FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud commended Senator Oluremi Tinubu and urged the younger generation, critical stakeholders to carry the spirit of caring for the elderly like the First Lady by keeping them company and drawing from their wealth of wisdom.

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of our seniors, reminding them that they are cherished and valued members of our community.

“To our dear elders, your presence enriches our lives, and today is a testament to our collective dedication to ensuring your happiness and comfort”.

In her vote of thanks, the Mandate Secretary FCTA Women Affairs, Dr Adedayo Benjamin- Laniyi who lauded the initiative, reiterated the commitment of the Secretariat to continue to champion the course of women and the girl child in the territory.

The Local Government Women leader Gwagwalada, Hajiya Fatima Musa Suleiman and two other beneficiaries, Mrs Sa’adatu Abdullahi, and Deborah Samuel expressed delight that the gesture would reduce the suffering of rural women and men at the grassroots to give them a sense of belonging.

The event which brought together elderly persons and women from various women groups was attended by wives of traditional rulers and Council Chairmen.

Highpoint of the event was a free medical check for the older persons, distribution of cash gifts and assorted packaged palliatives containing local food items and seasoning.
