As part of efforts to further boost and facilitate Non-oil Export next year, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, NEPC, has mapped out three strategic plans.
This includes: Education on Export Products, Products Packaging and Sourcing of Exportable Products.
The Executive Director/CEO of NEPC, Mrs Nonye Ayeni made this known in Nasarawa State during a Media Workshop for Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria, CICAN.
Mrs Ayeni who was represented by the Director, Corporate Services Department in NEPC, Mr Samuel Oyeyepo said the Council is committed to increasing the value chain in the Non-oil Export by bringing critical stakeholders together towards achieving the set goals in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s led administration in the areas of job creation, poverty reduction and national economic development.
The Executive Director therefore called for the support of the media in ensuring the promotion of Non-oil export to aid diversification of the Nation’s economy and increase the country’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.
Speaking on the theme of the Workshop “Facilitating Non-oil Export through Strategic Media Engagement”, the Director, Trade Information Department of NEPC, Dr. Joe Itah described the media as critical stakeholders in achieving the goals hence the need to sensitize Journalists in the sector on ways of increasing the export of Non-oil products.
Dr. Itah who commended the support of CICAN over the years in the activities of NEPC expressed the hope that the media engagement would further add value to NEPC Campaign on Export of Non-oil commodities.
He said the Council would also continue to work with relevant stakeholders and Government Agencies such as NAFDAC, SON, Ministries of Agriculture and Transportation among others towards achieving the target objectives.
In a paper presentation entitled “Identifying and Communicating Opportunities in the Non-oil Export Sector”, an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Expert, Dr. Eniola Temidayo advised media professionals to develop keen interest in the sector towards adding value to their economic wellbeing.
Other paper presenters and Scholars at the Workshop called for effective public private partnership in developing the nation’s Non-oil Export Sector.
In a remark, the Chairman of CICAN, Abuja Chapter, Comrade Ifeanyi Onuba commended NEPC for the workshop and restated the continuous support of the Association to the activities of the Council.
