COVID-19: Kano, Other Nine States Achieve Herd Immunity COVID-19: Kano, Other Nine States Achieve Herd ImmunityHerd immunity is a form of indirect protection that applies only to contagious diseases like COVID-19, It occurs when a sufficient percentage of a population has become immune to an infection, whether through previous infections or vaccination, thereby reducing the likelihood of infection for individuals who lack immunity.

This was disclosed at the COVID-19 Vaccination Acceleration (GLOVAX) USAID/Global Fund Project close-out in Abuja.

The Executive Director of KNCV, Dr Bethrand Odume said under the project at least 70% of Nigerians have been vaccinated (in line with the World Health Organization (WHO ) global target) of the total eligible population in each state.

”Today we have brought key stakeholders so that we will be able to share the results and experience, we have been able to gather implementing the USAID Global fund project.”

”This project was funded by USAID and implemented for about eighteen months, across ten states in Nigeria during the COVID-19 period.”

Dr Odume noted that some of the major challenges included hesitancy and false narratives around the COVID vaccine which made people create a lot of barriers.

According to him,” Working with the communities, and stakeholders like the National Primary Health Care Development Agency a whole lot of awareness was created a lot of those barriers over time started putting in rows.”
