Nigerian Army Gears Up For COAS Conference

In a bid to enhance operational effectiveness and address multifaceted security challenges, the Nigerian Army is gearing up for the Chief of Army Staff, COAS Annual Conference 2023 in Maiduguri.

According to a statement by the
Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu the event is scheduled to run from December 10 to December 16.

It says under the theme “Personnel Motivation for Effective Operational Performance in a Joint Environment,” the week-long conference is an annual gathering, offering the Nigerian Army a platform to assess ongoing operations across all theatres within the country.

The statement notes that the comprehensive review aims to inform strategic decisions to bolster national security, peace, and stability.

It adds that the conference will facilitate face-to-face interactions between the Chief of Army Staff and high-ranking officers, including General Officers Commanding and Field Commanders.

The President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is expected to be the Special Guest of Honour during the opening ceremony on December 11, 2023.

Key highlights includes an address to troops of Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, an inspection of the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Maiduguri, and the laying of the foundation stone of Headquarters 7 Division.

A lecture titled “Whole of Society Approach and Military Operations in Nigeria” by Rtd Lieutenant General Onyeabo Azubuike Ihejirika, former Chief of Army Staff, is also on the agenda.

Throughout the event, there will be commissioning of Nigerian Army Civil Military Cooperation projects, aimed at bringing relief to communities in Borno State.

Also the discussions will further revisit decisions from the Chief of Army Staff Combined Second and Third Quarters Conference 2023, ensuring a comprehensive and informed approach to national security challenges.
