Speaking after the second straight victory against Cameroon, an excited Nimrod said he told the girls the importance of Wednesday’s win for the team.

“After winning Cameroon in the first leg, I told them if they win the second one they are sure of going for U17 World championship which is next year. But if they don’t win this one, they will not go.

But now they have gotten the ticket for the world championship U17 next year so now I am pleased with that. The next thing now is to prepare for them to go for the world championship.

I’m pleased that they have gotten to the finals that Nigeria will watch U17, it’s been years, our female have not played finals in Nigeria but everybody is pleased with our new team…….. It is great.”

He also added that this is a good sign that Nigeria is working hard in the development of volleyball in the country.

“We are showing that in African Nigeria is number one in the development of youth volleyball.

I’m very happy, the last U18 gave us a food for thought that we need to go back to the drawing board. So we went back to the drawing board and started looking for players that are capable and this young ladies they are very good and I am pleased with that.”

The NVBF president said that no pressure has been placed on the girls going into the finals on Thursday as he is already happy with them in the finals of the championship as it is left for the coach Sunday Akapson and his girls to remain focus.

“Tomorrow finals, I’m not going to put pressure on the girls because they have gotten the ticket that I needed. If they win fantastic, but I’m happy that they are playing the finals.

It is now left for the coach to go and remain focus. The coach for Nigeria Sunday Akapson we are going to talk to him… so that they can pick up for tomorrows (Thursday) match.”
