Following the astonishing upset as Rwanda secured a surprising 2-0 victory against South Africa at the Huye Stadium in the Africa 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday, Nigerians have taken to social media platform X to express an array of opinions.
Nigeria endured 1-1 draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe and are now third in Group C on two points, one point behind Bafana Bafana, and two behind Rwanda who are top.
South Africa’s failure to capitalise on the Super Eagles’ slow start with a win in Rwanda has seen some Nigerian fans hopeful that this will help their qualification chances.
Nigerian journalist Chuma Nnoli, analyzing the implications of Rwanda’s win is one of those optimistic about Nigeria’s prospects in the race.
“Rwanda beating South Africa 2-0 gives Nigeria’s Super Eagles a chance to get back on track in the #2026WCQ race. I hope we don’t drop the ball again by the time we face Bafana Bafana in June 2024,” he wrote
