The House of Representatives Committee on National Planning and Economic Development has affirmed its commitment to utilizing legislative measures as a driving force for economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development.

Chairman of the Committe, Ayokunle Ibrahim Isiaka who made this declaration during the inaugural meeting held in Abuja, underscored the crucial role legislation can play in steering the nation towards economic resilience and prosperity.

He emphasized that legislative tools are not merely instruments but essential responsibilities in igniting economic vitality, particularly in challenging times.

Highlighting the significance of public involvement in the legislative process, the Chairman announced plans for public hearings, expert consultations, and stakeholder engagements.

This inclusive approach aims to gather diverse perspectives, ensuring a well-informed and balanced formulation of economic legislation.

“Very soon, the Committee shall be embarking on Inter Governmental and Budget Reforms of multi-faceted and interlinked nature of sustainable development, which calls for interventions to be tackled simultaneously through a coordinated approach for reversing the declining economy, stabilizing the polity and integrating the various societal interests all with a view to enhancing national development.

“Currently, there is a mixed reaction among various stakeholders including scholars, the media and some members of the private sector.

“But, our Committee would do its best at bridging the gap between the euphoria and skepticism about this concern.

In a show of support, the Senate Committee Chairman on National Planning and Economic Development, Senator Yahaya Abubakar Abdulahi commended Mr. Isiaka for extending collaboration to the Senate committee.

According to him, this cross-committee cooperation signifies a unified approach towards national economic planning.

Members of the committee echoed the Chairman’s commitment, expressing their dedication to collaborative efforts in drafting impactful legislation.
