The Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) 2023, 40 years plenary Annual General Meeting (AGM) kicked off on Friday, November 10, 2023 with a sport fiesta, that saw all it’s members in attendance take part in different sporting events.
The sport fiesta which was held at Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, started with aerobics and board games.
In Chess, one of the events contested by the alumnus, Kester Idogho of Federal Government College Ibillo defeated Oladimeji of Federal Government College Ilorin in the final to emerge champion.

Other events that wrap up the sports fiesta was the Men’s and Women’s football finals with a random selection of the men and women to form an 8 A-side team.
Meanwhile, the climax of the sports fiesta saw USOSA residents of Abuja defeating USOSA residents of Kaduna 10-4.

Speaking to Kapital FM on the game, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) chairman for the sports carnival, Mohammed Mustafa said that the sports fiesta is a test run to the 2024 Sports Carnival.
“This is the build up to the Sports Carnival and then the AGM and 40th plenary is happening tomorrow…..
We are creating momentum towards the AGM tomorrow and also to test run what the Sports Carnival will look like in 2024 April.”
Mustapha adds that they have carried over the message of unity for over 50 years.
“When we went to school, we didn’t know what was religion tribe or ethnicity, so we’ve carried on the message of unity for over 50 years and the second generation Unity Schools are celebrating 50 this year.
We have done a lot advocacy and otherwise in the area of education, what education should be and what it shouldn’t.
We had an education summit in July, this year.”
Also speaking was Chidi Anene the Sectary General of USOSA who said the aim is to ensure that they get in the unity conversation.
“What we try to do over the years is to get in the unity conversation, especially know that everyone is talking about different tribes, different religions”
Mr Anene also broke down the propose of the unity school and and why they decided to use sports;
“We started last year, we started a campaign called Nigeria Unit, what we are trying to do is to use every faucet we have our members, to come together, do activities, popularize this unity conversation.
That just means come together do things together as one, let people know that Nigeria we can be diverse… But we can always come together.
The football activity started last year we were in Port Harcourt, were USOSA resident in Lagos went all the way to Port Harcourt to play a football match against the USOSA resident in Port Harcourt and we said for this year’s edition we need to move from Port Harcourt to Abuja.”
USOSA is the umbrella body of all Federal Government Colleges in Nigeria, which was set up to integrate young Nigerians.
