The Federal Ministry of Justice has restated its commitment in the fight against cybercrime for the safety of online environment in the country.
The Solicitor General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Beatrice Jeddy-Agba, made the call at the commencement of an awareness work in Abuja, tagged “Don’t fall a victim, Don’t perpetrate”.
Mrs Agba said that as technology evolves rapidly, the complexity and scale of cyber threats increases hence the need to tackle the dangers that comes with the negative impacts of the internet.
The Solicitor General added that the knowledge of Cybercrimes and the law among the civil servants in Nigeria is an approach to effectively combat Cybercrime as well as the implementation of the Cybercrime law.
Mrs Geddy-Agba noted that, the Ministry of justice in collaboration with other government agencies and Industry stakeholders will continue to sustain the campaign against cybercrime.
Also speaking, Head of Cybercrimes Unit, Federal Ministry of Justice Jamila Akaaga-Ade explained that, campaigns against cybercrime became imperative due to massive activities and personal dealings with the internet.
She added that the Federal Government in collaboration with other stakeholders have adopted a strategic document on cyber security which gave birth to cybercrime act that considered offences and penalties in line with global best practices.
