The Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs
Makki Yalleman has urged members of the committee to diligently tackle the issue of insecurity in the country, surpassing the expectations of Nigerians.
At the committee’s inaugural meeting in Abuja, the Chairman emphasized the importance of the committee’s role in overseeing crucial matters related to policing and law enforcement.
Mr. Yalleman who noted the urgent need to address the security challenges affecting various parts of the country said citizens are increasingly looking to their representatives and leaders for solutions to strengthen law and order, protect lives and property, and instill confidence in the country’s security institutions.
He emphasized that the committee would rely on the members’ wealth of experience, expertise, hard work and dedication to fulfill its functions effectively.
“Our tasks include ensuring adequate funding for agencies under their jurisdiction, enacting useful legislation, conducting performance audits, and other oversight functions aimed at improving service delivery and repositioning the nation’s internal security architecture” he explained.
He expressed confidence that through open-minded discussions and collaborative efforts, the committee could achieve substantial progress.
The chairman stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, diligence, patience, and perseverance for the committee to endure and succeed.
According to him, in the months and years ahead, the committee’s work will touch on sensitive matters that will yield significant results for the betterment of the people.
While pledging to ensure fair and impartial proceedings Yalleman urged members to prioritize shared goals over narrow interests and to uphold the highest standards of conduct.
Furthermore, he emphasized the need to place the needs of citizens above personal interests.
